Xanga.com is a young and exciting web community company with over 30 million users throughout the world. You can use your Xanga site to write about your day, keep in touch with friends, and share photos or videos.
We are looking for an exceptional systems engineer to help scale out one of the largest sites in the world. You will deal with all the major components of running a highly scalable website: operating systems, databases, distributed file systems, networking, and caching systems. You should be excited at the opportunity to deal with petabytes of storage, gigabytes of traffic and thousands of servers. If you love to tinker with computers and hardware, we'd love to talk to you!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to scaling the site
- Maintain maximum uptime of the site
- Work directly with Software Engineers to address scalability
- Help develop backend applications or infrastructure necessary support the site
- Actively monitor the site and be prepared to address issues
- Build and install new servers and hardware
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in networking protocols and equipment
- Experience working with a wide variety of hardware
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Knowledgable in Windows 2003/XP/FreeBSD/Linux
- Proficient with power tools and not afraid to lift heavy equipment
- A passion to learn and keep up with the latest technologies
- Living in or willing to relocate to the New York City area
- Ninja skills are a plus
